Chin Augmentation

Conveniently located to serve Long Island

Chin AugmentationChin Augmentation in Long Island is a procedure done for patients whose chin does not project out far enough. A retrognathic chin often results in facial imbalance and the goal of the procedure is to produce more chin projection and to improve facial symmetry and balance. This is done through a small skin incision under the chin that will allow for an implant. Dr. John Layliev will sometimes recommend this procedure as an adjunct procedure to patients interested in rhinoplasty because idealizing nasal projection and chin projection together can significantly improve facial balance.

What Is Chin Augmentation?

A chin augmentation surgery, or genioplasty, is the reshaping or size enhancement of the chin area. It can be performed to improve the projection of the chin in order to give more prominence to the jawline.

A chin enhancement procedure can be combined with other procedures such as rhinoplasty or facial liposuction to achieve a well-balanced profile.

There are many different techniques used for chin augmentation. Dr. Layliev makes use of implants for a tailored look.

Am I an Ideal Candidate for Chin Augmentation?

Patients with weak chins that sit farther back than their facial bone may be advised to get a chin implant. If you think that your nose looks bigger than you would like due to an underprojected chin, then you may be a good candidate for chin augmentation, since this can improve facial balance.

This procedure is most recommended for patients with good dentition and normal occlusion (when your upper teeth meet your lower teeth appropriately). It is vital that you be in good overall health without underlying cardiovascular illnesses. Having a positive outlook and realistic expectations is also important.

The Consultation

A physical evaluation of your chin will be performed during your consultation. A review of your medical history will be conducted to assess underlying conditions, current medications, and any other potential risk factors.

You and Dr. Layliev will have a thorough discussion of your chin augmentation goals. The procedure will be discussed, as well as your chin implant options. If you have any questions, Dr. Layliev will answer them so you can make an informed decision.

The Chin Augmentation Procedure

The first step in chin implant surgery is the administration of anesthesia. The type of anesthesia will be discussed and recommended during the consultation.

Next, incisions will be made, either inside the mouth or under the chin, to create a pocket for the implant. The implant will be placed into this pocket and positioned snugly. The incisions will then be stitched closed.

Depending on the complexity of the techniques used, the process can take less than an hour or up to three hours.

What Is Recovery Like?

The recovery after chin augmentation surgery does not require significant downtime. Patients may be able to return to normal activities after several days. You may be recommended to wear a compression garment to support the chin throughout the initial healing process.

Swelling and bruising may take some time to completely subside. To alleviate discomfort, you may take pain medications as directed. Patients may also be advised to go on a liquid diet for a few weeks. Avoid heavy lifting and other strenuous activities until cleared by Dr. Layliev.

Cost of Chin Augmentation

The cost of chin augmentation surgery varies depending on the customized approach formulated to meet each patient’s specific needs. The overall price may be impacted by the type of anesthesia used, surgical fees, and the type of implant used.
