Breast Reconstruction: Before & After Photos

This 47-year-old BRCA1+ breast cancer survivor is shown 1 year after double mastectomy and implant reconstruction as well as nipple/areolar reconstruction by Dr. John Layliev in Long Island, NY. Her mastectomy was designed to give her a lift at the same time using an advanced technique. Immediately following mastectomy, temporary implants (tissue expanders) were used which allowed gradual enlargement of the reconstructed breasts over time to a size our patient desired. The tisse expanders were later replaced with permanent smooth 560 and 605cc silicone breast implants. The nipple and areola complex was then reconstructed using a signature technique that uses her own skin, allowing the nipples to look and feel real with actual texture. No nipple or areola tattoo was used in this case. She is thrilled with her natural looking and feeling results.

This 44-year-old BRCA1+ woman is 9 months after nipple sparing double mastectomy and immediate reconstruction with DIEP flaps and breast implants. Her protuberant abdomen was due to a very wide rectus diastasis (weakening and separating of her midline abdominal muscles) and less so from excess tummy skin. Her tummy tuck skin and fat was used as DIEP flaps for breast reconstruction; because she deisred more breast volume than her tummy tuck skin could give, breast implants (250 and 300cc smooth silicone implants) complemented her reconstruction. The incision for her mastectomy was designed as a vertical incision, keeping in mind that she may desire a breast lift after all this was done. Three months after her initial reconstruction and mastectomy, a planned breast skin lift using the same incisions as well as fat grafting was done to further enhance her results.

During the first stage reconstruction immediately after mastetcomies, temporary impants (tissue expanders) were placed. The expanders were filled over a couple of months time in the office to the patient’s desired new breast volume. During her second and final stage reconstruction, the temporary expanders were replaced with permanent 365cc high profile smooth silicone breast implants and fat, which was liposuctioned from her hip rolls and thighs, was purified and grafted into the breast skin envelopes to produce a more natural result. Her mastectomy and reconstruction incision was designed to be in her natural breast crease, completely hidden, making this reconstruction look like a cosmetic breast augmentation.

This 29-year-old woman breast cancer survivor is shown 8 months after mastectomy and reconstruction. Her first stage reconstruction, immediately following her bilateral mastectomy, involved a specialized type of breast lift as well as tissue expanders. Her second stage reconstruction involved swapping out tissue expanders for permanent breast implants as well as abdominal liposuction for fat harvesting which was used to fat graft the breast skin envelopes to allow for more natural breast contours and transitions. She is cancer free and is so happy with her results. She is now due for her final stage nipple and areola reconstruction in the coming months.
